About
My Ecuadorian trek started in the city of Guayaquil. I met up with my friend Danil, who was also joining the Peaceful Warrior expedition to Cuenca. We set off from the Airbnb to get a feel for the country, starting with the streets. I brought about fifteen rolls of film with me, two of which were Ilford HP5 400. I enjoy these spur-of-the-moment happenings because it allows me to get a sense of a new environment and atmosphere. Guayaquil was overcast with a side of melancholy that day. I noticed an obvious police presence in the city due to recent cartel activity that the country was dealing with at the time. Some places I’ve photographed feel like a real sketchbook, but not here. I felt completely safe with the M6 and a 28mm Summicron. Side note - I got to give it up to the camera gods who sent us the most discreet design to get the shot without bringing so much attention to ourselves. Now there were many interesting subjects from this roll; however, this particular shot stood out to me. Yes, I am a VW Bus lover, and I’ll say it again, they are the perfect street furniture. Observing an old thing in a modern era can feel so tender. When photographing, I constantly scan for dated and scarce oddities. For me, a vintage vehicle brings back nostalgic music and romance. It tells a story of a time before—a time of simplicity when cupholders weren’t even a necessity. Photographing this old thing feels like I am capturing it before it finally runs out of steam. No path is perfect infact there is no perfection in this world, theres is only striving for it.

Hello world in this life I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light doors continue to open giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way.
