About
After seven years of photographing, I was 23, just beginning to know the faces of some truly beautiful humans in our world. Meet Ayanna & Asha Diaz, better known as the Wadada Twins from Trinidad and Tobago. Together they form the WADADA MOVEMENT, a fashion and Lifestyle brand. To edify you a bit, Wadada is an Amharic word/phrase for Love or Greetings of Love. Pushing all boundaries and breaking the mold, their story is far from normal as fashion designers. Being exceptionally tall with double-zero waists is a combination they describe as feeling like misfits in a world that emphasises conformity. This birthed the realization that the fashion industry had no room for bodies like theirs. Difficulties extended to even cultural aspects within Rastafari. A way of life they walk with so genuinely. Yet they attribute their growth to the pushbacks and limitations. All arriving for their benefit. Their story is so relevant to my little world. Withdrawing from all negativity, fighting the battle where I am now until I get to where I want to be. When there is a storm, the tree that is rigid gets uprooted or snaps, while the grass bends and prevails. Adaptability turns any disadvantage into power. This is the art of getting what we desire. Oiling are hearts and hands so nothing sticks to us whilst adapting and adjusting. Knowing that for the time we are here, it is with great purpose. Like the twins, we all overcame some level of fight down on our paths just doing what we loved. I share their portrait and only a fraction of their story as a reminder of strong willpower and determination.

Hello world, in this life, I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light, doors continue to open, giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way. I am simply an instrument of our creator, telling a story through observation. I appreciate all your support and engagement as I set the intention to get more of my work out into our world.
