Milcíades Estiven Castro describes his current stage as a process of self-understanding and alignment with his passions, particularly within the intersection of fashion, artisanal practice, and ancestral knowledge. He sees this moment as one in which long-held searches are beginning to materialize, shaping not only his creative voice but also his way of connecting with others and defining his personal ideology. @somosmhuyscas

He reflects on childhood as a foundational influence, marked by strong family bonds, love, and encouragement. His early curiosity, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness continue to inform his personality and creative expression. Skills and values passed down from his parents—such as weaving from his father and precision from his mother—have played a significant role in shaping his identity, which he now more fully understands in adulthood. Estiven also emphasizes the importance of identity and representation. By embracing his physical features and heritage, he uses his personal image and style as a form of communication, blending contemporary and artisanal elements to convey deeper narratives. His aesthetic choices aim to spark curiosity and communicate intention, highlighting the historical and cultural significance behind his work.
In his creative philosophy, he views human relationships as a woven fabric, where each individual represents a thread that intersects with others to create shared meaning. This metaphor informs how he approaches collaboration, communication, and community, recognizing both diversity and interconnectedness as essential to creative and personal growth. An artist who underscores the importance of intuition and perseverance. Reflecting on past doubts about his career path, he acknowledges that his connection to the artisanal world has only grown stronger over time. @milciadescastrov encourages listening to one’s inner voice and trusting persistent instincts, as they can lead to meaningful and authentic outcomes.

In Milcíades Estiven Castro, Nkosi Gomez presents a quiet, intimate portrait that centers on introspection and identity. The subject’s face is partially obscured—one eye covered by his hand, the other meeting the viewer with steady clarity. A woven hat and patterned textile frame his features, subtly referencing artisanal traditions and inherited knowledge.

The composition emphasizes duality: concealment and revelation, past and present. Light falls gently across his skin, highlighting texture and presence while allowing shadow to hold space for ambiguity. This visual restraint mirrors Castro’s ongoing process of self-understanding—an identity not fixed, but unfolding.

Gomez’s framing transforms the portrait into more than likeness; it becomes a meditation on lineage and authorship. The materials surrounding Castro echo his connection to craft and ancestry, while his direct gaze asserts agency and contemporary voice. The image reflects a person in alignment—someone weaving together memory, heritage, and intention into a singular, evolving form.

Photo finish: Legacy Etching is a pure white 100% cotton fibre paper with a textured matte finish. This paper simulates the touch and feel of old-world artist etching pads and handmade paper, but with the advantage of current technological improvements. It has an industry-leading microporous inkjet receptive layer that produces deep, rich blacks (Dmax), expanded color gamut, and gentle tonal gradations, and will provide outstanding image permanence and durability.

Hello world, in this life, I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light, doors continue to open, giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way. I am simply an instrument of our creator, telling a story through observation. I appreciate all your support and engagement as I set the intention to get more of my work out into our world.
