About
A serene moment captured in a world of music and memories, where vinyl and ambiance intertwine.
Being a parent for four years now has helped me to see those around through a new lens every next encounter. My son, who first came to me as a stellar potato who couldn’t even move his head, surprises me every day with something he’s learned or heard. The person I knew last week is not the same one this week. Something shifts; time and direct experience had its way with them again. We are all like babies wearing the badge of adulthood. Fundamentally, still learning in the school of life. Still making mistakes and growing. I am learning that to know someone deeper, I must be adaptable to the versions of them that I am presented with. Can I listen to this person with an open heart and mind again? Can I say yes to this new moment? It’s too easy to find fault in others its harder to search deeply and see my own image reflecting in the face of another. I entitled this photograph, “ Saw you for the first time again”, as the subject eludes view of their face. From the seat of the viewer, I am left wondering who the mystery woman is. Mind is scrambling to tie any emotion to this photograph of a faceless person. Though this thread of thought has an end, I accept and show up with observation, listen, and become aware again, even when some questions are left unanswered. I see that everyone is a world within a world. A great mystery.
The photograph “Saw You for the First Time Again” by Nkosi Gomez is a carefully composed black-and-white interior scene that blends portraiture with still life. At its center stands a solitary figure, turned in profile and slightly away from the camera, her face completely obscured by the brim of a wide hat and the angle of her body. This deliberate concealment transforms her from a specific individual into a kind of presence—recognizable yet unknowable.
She stands before a large shelving unit filled with vinyl records, flanked by two prominent speakers. The shelves are dense with objects: stacks of albums, audio equipment, a lava lamp, books, and small decorative items. The environment feels lived-in and intimate, suggesting a personal space shaped by taste, memory, and time. The symmetry of the speakers and shelving frames the figure, almost like a stage, while the surrounding details hint at layers of identity that remain partially hidden.
The woman’s posture is relaxed but self-contained, one hand resting in her pocket. Her clothing is simple and textured, contrasting subtly with the rigid geometry of the shelving behind her. Though she is physically present, her turned back denies the viewer the usual cues of facial expression, creating a quiet tension between familiarity and distance.
Within the context of the artist’s reflection on parenthood and perception, the image becomes a meditation on how we encounter others. Just as the subject’s face is withheld, so too is any fixed understanding of who she is. The viewer is left to confront their own instinct to define, label, or project meaning. Instead, the photograph encourages a different approach: to observe without assumption, to accept the unknown, and to meet each person as if for the first time.
The richly detailed background—filled with records that each hold their own stories—mirrors the idea that every individual contains layers of experience and transformation. Yet none of it fully reveals the subject. She remains, like all people, “a world within a world,” shifting and evolving beyond any single moment of recognition.

Hello world, in this life, I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light, doors continue to open, giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way. I am simply an instrument of our creator, telling a story through observation. I appreciate all your support and engagement as I set the intention to get more of my work out into our world.
