The photograph “Hidden in a Cabinet” by Nkosi Gomez presents a stark, minimalist interior dominated by shadow. Most of the room is engulfed in darkness, with only a sharp, triangular beam of light cutting across the floor and up the wall.

Within this narrow slice of light sits a lone figure, leaning against the corner where two walls meet. The person appears introspective, head slightly bowed, body relaxed but withdrawn, as if resting or retreating inward. Their clothing is simple and light-colored, which contrasts with the surrounding darkness and helps anchor them visually in the illuminated space.

The composition emphasizes isolation and contrast—light versus shadow, presence versus emptiness. The vast, dark negative space surrounding the figure makes them appear small and vulnerable, while the precise geometry of the light creates a quiet, almost theatrical focus. The overall mood feels contemplative and intimate, suggesting themes of solitude, introspection, or being emotionally “hidden” despite being physically visible.

Photo finish: Legacy Etching is a pure white 100% cotton fibre paper with a textured matte finish. This paper simulates the touch and feel of old-world artist etching pads and handmade paper, but with the advantage of current technological improvements. It has an industry-leading microporous inkjet receptive layer that produces deep, rich blacks (Dmax), expanded color gamut, and gentle tonal gradations, and will provide outstanding image permanence and durability.

Hello world, in this life, I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light, doors continue to open, giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way. I am simply an instrument of our creator, telling a story through observation. I appreciate all your support and engagement as I set the intention to get more of my work out into our world.
