The photograph To Be Heard by Nkosi Gomez shows two figures standing at the outer corner of a large red-brick building. Each person faces a different wall, their bodies angled so they are separated by the sharp edge of the structure. Their arms hang slightly away from their sides, creating a sense of tension or openness.

The building dominates the composition—its tall, flat brick surfaces and rows of rectangular windows emphasize rigidity and scale. In contrast, the two figures appear small and vulnerable, almost absorbed by the architecture. The bright daylight casts soft shadows, and the grass at their feet adds a natural element that contrasts with the stark geometry of the building.

The positioning of the figures—close to each other yet divided by the corner—suggests themes of isolation, communication barriers, or the struggle to be acknowledged. The title reinforces this interpretation, implying a desire for connection or recognition that is somehow obstructed.

Photo finish: Legacy Etching is a pure white 100% cotton fibre paper with a textured matte finish. This paper simulates the touch and feel of old-world artist etching pads and handmade paper, but with the advantage of current technological improvements. It has an industry-leading microporous inkjet receptive layer that produces deep, rich blacks (Dmax), expanded color gamut, and gentle tonal gradations, and will provide outstanding image permanence and durability.

Hello world, in this life, I walk with a camera in hand as a tool and form of creative expression. When I was younger, I would hear doubts about how anyone could sustain a living through photography. I’ve learned that the world has more stories than it wants to tell. In the last 15 years of placing all my focus on studying and working in this medium, I can say confidently that everything needs visual representation in a modern world. Through capturing light, doors continue to open, giving more and more meaning to my life. I share these words and lean completely forward to one of my biggest dreams, putting my work out there in the physical form of a print. Your support during this time goes a long way. I am simply an instrument of our creator, telling a story through observation. I appreciate all your support and engagement as I set the intention to get more of my work out into our world.
