In “Pieces don’t shapes” by Nkosi Gomez, the scene unfolds across a stack of weathered shipping containers painted in faded blue, yellow, and orange, set beneath a clear, pale sky. The industrial geometry of the containers creates strong horizontal and vertical blocks of color, each surface marked by rust, scratches, and signs of use.

At the center, a human figure—dressed in a bright yellow jacket, soft pink trousers, and light-colored shoes—leans forward over the edge of a blue container. Their upper body disappears completely inside the container, leaving only their lower half visible, legs dangling awkwardly over the side. The pose feels both intentional and absurd, as if the person has been partially absorbed into the structure.

The composition emphasizes contrast: soft, playful clothing colors against the rigid, utilitarian forms of the containers. The figure’s interruption of the clean lines introduces a sense of imbalance and curiosity.
